Empowering Black Women & Families
We are the official Greater Essex County Section of NCNW, dedicated to leadership, service, and advocacy for women of African descent within Essex County including Irvington, Newark, Maplewood, and beyond.

A Word From Our President
Welcome to the Greater Essex County Section of the National Council of Negro Women.
What began as an idea to create a stronger network of women committed to service, leadership, sisterhood, and opportunity became something much greater. We saw a need to better connect women and families with resources, relationships, and opportunities that could strengthen our communities.
In 2024, we began organizing around that vision. What started with a focus on Irvington and Newark quickly grew as women from across Essex County expressed interest in being part of the work.
On September 18, 2025, the Greater Essex County Section was officially chartered with 53 women.
That moment was not the end of the journey, but our beginning.
Today, we are building programs, partnerships, and opportunities centered on health equity, education, economic empowerment, civic engagement, leadership, service, and sisterhood.
I invite you to learn more about who we are, what we’ve been up to, and the work we are building throughout Greater Essex County. Whether you attend a program, partner with us, volunteer, or become a member, we hope you will find a way to connect with our mission.
We are proud of how we began, grateful for the women who believed in the vision, and excited for what comes next.
In service and sisterhood,
Victoria Juste-Henry
